Is your product
getting harder
to beat?
Or just faster
to build?
Good discovery. Faster delivery. AI on full throttle.
None of it guarantees a more competitive product.
I'm Jussi Mäkelä. I work with product and technology leaders when their business depends on product improvements their organisation is struggling to achieve.
Vision.Intuition.Taste.
Of course they matter.
But a great product shouldn't depend on somebody having an inspired Tuesday.
Even brilliant decisions in isolation can add up to a product that loses.
How do you make
excellence repeatable?
The whole product
is what competes.
Buyers. Users. Partners. Operators. Owners.
They don't judge the product by the same standards. And making things better for one can make them worse for another.
The higher the stakes, the less you can afford to optimise the parts and hope for a competitive whole.
Engineering is
not a department.
Your product doesn't give a damn about your org chart.
Work out what it must be exceptional at, what it cannot afford to get wrong, and for whom.
How good? Compared with what? At what cost?
Make the design, the investment and the organisation answer to those requirements.
Then see if reality agrees.
Competitive business performance is too consequential to leave as an accidental byproduct of otherwise excellent work.
What is your development investment actually buying?
More software?
Or a product that’s harder to beat?
The point isn’t to make your organisation better at doing product development.
It’s to make it better at developing competitive products.

What does your product desperately need to become better at?
And what’s stopping your organisation from making it happen?
If the stakes are high and progress isn’t good enough, bring me that problem.
